Street Scene Complete

Street scene finally complete with UV mapping. It was certainly a long project to work with, but I learned loads feeling more confident in how to approach some models with a basic understanding of UV mapping. Hopefully, I will be able to use these skills in my own projects. As Alan said, it is actually quite tricky to position objects in an natural state without looking too contrived, so I hope my scene looks natural enough. Scene rendered with Mental Ray.

When I first rendered this scene, the Air Condition object towards the back of the scene suffered a graphical glitch. I'm not too sure as to why as I checked the settings which were fine. I wonder if its just the distance and positioning of the camera? Moving the object across to different positions yielded similar results so I took it out in the end.

Well, I'm pretty pleased having made the scene from start to finish (minus the mailbox and air conditioner). Big thanks to Alan for all the video tutorials and I look forward to the next projects to learn with in Maya.

Street Scene - UV Mapping #3

Finally got the Street scene done complete with UV mapping. Took a long time, but is pretty satisfying once everything starts to fall into place. I hope everything turned out fine with the UVs as I had to fix some rogue one's floating about.

I also found the solution to my earlier problem of bevelling after committing to some extruding, turns out I had 'Keep Faces Together' off causing some problems. Not to fear, as I patched up any faces that went awry after extruding with some merging.

I'd like to think I'm getting better with each task, being a bit more efficient successfully solving some rogue problems. Though, I think time will surely tell when we start creating our own dictated objects.

Street Scene - UV Mapping #2

Getting more used to the process of modelling and UV mapping now, still takes a while though! Fortunately, the problems I encountered I managed to resolve by some forms or means of another - particularly some rogue UVs not wanting to map correctly. I occasionally encountered a problem when bevelling edges after extruding, seems the geometry went a bit odd in some cases (despite looking natural) that stopped some edges from bevelling.

Look forward to the next stage of completing the scene!

Street Scene - UV Mapping

Whew, finally got the Maya tutorial done, this time covering the initial basics in UV texture mapping with Planer mapping tools by modelling a house that will be used for our street scene. It took some doing, encountering a number of problems which I had to overcome with some thought. Things are definitely stepping up a gear - I hope all is well in my UV mapping!

On a side note, the format of video tutorials was a nice change of pace to follow as not only can one visibly see how to execute actions, but I think it may have been rather difficult and perhaps straining to keep track through what would have been a rather lengthy pdf. I hope that some audio commentary will be able to assist as well in the near future.

Edit: Fixed the window planes uv mapping.
