Life Drawing #18

Life drawing! A few tricky poses this week with an array of intersecting objects and foreshortening.

Life Drawing #17

More life drawing again this week with a female model. There's a lot of objects surrounding the model this time as the first years were focusing on negative space.

Life Drawing #16

Life drawing again with a male model. I think the plenty of 2 minute warm up drawings definitely helped further down the line with the later extended poses.

Life Drawing #15

More fun with Life Drawing with a few 2 minute poses and extended ones.

Life Drawing #14

More life drawing this week - with some quick poses and extended pieces focusing on measurements and proportions.

Life Drawing #13

Chilled out at the life drawing session with the first years earlier this week. It's been far too long since I last did life drawing, I'm afraid I may be a little rusty.

Life Drawing #12

The penultimate life drawing session before the end of the first year, with two extended studies of a lying down figure wrought with foreshortening and a challenging perspective.

Life Drawing #11

An interesting life drawing session, committing to an extended study of a difficult pose full of foreshortening. It proved quite challenging where I must of rubbed out more often than I would have liked, but I think I got a reasonable result in the end.

5 min warmup sketches

Extended study

Life Drawing #10

Been a while since I last used charcoal for life drawing.

Life Drawing #9

Life Drawing with some clothed warm-ups and later tone and negative space studies. Some trying studies with some success.

(Argh - seemed to make all my past mistakes with this one)

Life Drawing #8

Life Drawing again! Quite challenging this week with an interesting set of poses. I'm happy with the sitting/laying poses but the last standing pose is a little amiss.

Life Drawing #7

Life drawing returns! After the hiatus I felt a bit rusty at first but things soon picked up. Its great getting back into the thick of things.

Life Drawing #6

Life Drawing time! After an initial three 10 minute focused studies, the main focus was combining the two approaches of negative space and tonal value. Switching back and fourth from the two techniques, the process slows one down considerably to really study and capture the form with greater detail and proportion. Where I think my tonal approach has improved, I don't think I quite captured negative space in quite the same way as my fellow students, for better or for worse.

Initial focused studies. 10 minutes.

Tonal value and negative space approach. 45 minutes.

Final quick 5 minutes sketches for the day

Quick sketches are always fun but challenging at the same time!
