The intricate and vast networks of mycelium can perhaps be interpreted as a model of the internet with its vast network or that of the human mind. As mycologist Paul Stamets suggests the mycelium to be 'Earth's natural internet' - shown at 3:28-5:00min of the video (pressing play in embed below should take you to the right point).
As such, I started to look at other 'networks' for further inspiration in capturing a unique and visually engaging approach to the animation.
